The city of Denver, Colorado imposes various taxes on residents and businesses in the city. All real estate and personal property located in Denver is assessed and taxed annually.
In addition to the state sales and use tax, the city of Denver imposes a 3.62% city sales tax, and a 3.62% consumer use tax and retailer’s use tax. A tax of 4% is charged for food and beverages, 4 cents per gallon for aviation fuel, and 7.25% for rental of automotive vehicles.
Like most cities, Denver charges a lodger’s tax. The tax is at a rate of 10.75% of the amount paid for lodging. The city of Denver also imposes a facilities development admission tax of 10%, as well as a telecommunication business tax.
Both an employee occupational privilege tax and a business occupational privilege tax are levied by the city of Denver. These taxes are for the privilege of conducting business or earning a wage within the city boundaries.
