The state of Kansas generates income from various types of taxes on businesses and individuals, including sales and use tax, individual and corporate income tax, and various other taxes.

The general state sales and use tax rate is 5.3%. Some localities also charge a sales and use tax.

Individual income tax is reported on Form K-40. The return is due by April 15, or the next business day if the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday.

Corporations file Form K-120, Corporation Income Tax Return, and S corporations and partnerships file Form K-120 S, both of which are due by the fifteenth day of the fourth month after the end of the corporation’s or partnership’s fiscal year.

Some of the other taxes imposed by the state are cigarette and tobacco tax, property tax, withholding tax, environmental surcharge and solvent fee, liquor drink tax, motor fuel taxes, tire excise tax, transient guest tax, and vehicle rental excise tax.
