The state of Pennsylvania imposes several different taxes on its residents. These taxes include individual and corporate income tax, sales and use tax, and various other taxes, and are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

The general state sales and use tax rate for Pennsylvania is 6%. Some counties also impose an additional sales and use tax.

Individual income tax is reported on Form PA-40, with a due date of April 15. If the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, taxpayers have until the next business day to mail the return. Pennsylvania uses a flat rate of 3% of taxable income.

Corporations report their income tax using Form RCT-101-PA, due by April 15, or by 30 days after the federal due date. Form PA 20S is used to report S corporation income, and is due by the fifteenth day of the fourth month following the end of the fiscal year. Partnerships report income using Form PA 65, with a due date of the fifteenth day of the fourth month after fiscal year-end.

Revenue is also generated for the state by imposing other taxes such as the property tax, realty transfer tax, cigarette tax, inheritance tax, withholding tax, malt beverage tax, hotel occupancy tax, and motor fuels tax.
