South Carolina’s taxes are managed by the Department of Revenue. These taxes include sales and use tax, individual and corporate income tax, property tax, and various other taxes.

The general state sales and use tax rate is 6%. Counties are also able to add another 1% sales and use tax.

South Carolina residents report their individual income tax on Form SC 1040. Tax rates range from 2.5% to 7%. The return is due April 15, or the next business day if the 15th falls on a holiday or over the weekend.

Corporations report their income tax on Form SC 1120 or Form SC 1120 S for an S corporation. Both returns are due by the 15th day of the third month following the close of the corporation’s fiscal year. An exempt organization files Form SC 990-T by the 15th day of the fifth month after the end of its tax year. The Partnership Income Tax Return, Form SC 1065, is due by the 15th day of the fourth month after the end of the fiscal year.

Other South Carolina taxes include those for property, withholding, motor fuel, admissions, banks, cigarettes and tobacco products, forest renewal, and soft drinks.
