The city of Wilmington, Delaware levies various taxes in order to generate revenue for the city. On an annual basis, all real property located within the city is reported and assessed based on the fair market value of the property. Property taxes are administered by the Board of Assessment.
Individual income tax of 1.25% on the income of both residents and nonresidents is collected annually.
A realty transfer tax of 2% of the amount paid or intended to be paid in the future for the transfer of title for any real estate in the city is also levied.
Wilmington imposes a lodging tax of 3% of the amount paid for hotel or motel accommodations in the city. This tax is reported and remitted monthly.
The city of Wilmington, Delaware imposes an event tax. This tax is imposed when an admission amount is charged for any sporting, cultural, athletic, amusement, recreational, or other event in the city limits. The rate of tax is $2.50 for any admission charge over ten dollars.
