Wyoming

Wyoming is one of only seven U.S. states that do not impose an income tax. There is no individual or corporate income tax collected. There is also no inheritance tax levied. Wyoming does generate revenue by collecting sales and use tax, property taxes, and various excise taxes.

The general state sales tax rate for Wyoming is 4%. The counties may add up to 2% of additional sales and use tax. Food for home consumption and prescriptions are not taxable. Some of the counties charge a lodging tax which varies from two to four percent. Gasoline tax, gasohol tax, and diesel fuel tax of 14 cents per gallon each are also imposed.

Various excise taxes are collected. These include cigarette tax of 60 cents per pack of 20 cigarettes, estate tax, and gross products and severance tax on several different minerals.

Property tax rates are determined locally, and the amount of tax depends on the assessed value of the property. The property tax process is overseen by the Ad Valorem Tax Division of the Department of Revenue. There are some property tax relief programs and possible partial exemptions available.
